About the Facility: Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP)
Salinas Valley State Prison is a maximum-security state prison located in Soledad, California. It houses adult male inmates and is known for its strict security measures. The prison offers limited rehabilitative programs, including education and vocational training, but its focus is primarily on containment and security. Due to its high-security status, inmates have limited access to outside activities and programs.
SVSP-PP is a dedicated unit within the SVSP facility that specifically focuses on providing inpatient psychiatric care for inmates with acute mental health needs. It offers psychiatric evaluations, medication management, therapeutic interventions, and treatment for inmates with severe psychiatric disorders requiring intensive care. This section of the prison is located within the grounds of the prison in a separate building.

Clinical Psychologist - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
- The Clinical Psychologist provides psychological evaluations, including assessments of mental health, criminal history, and substance abuse to determine treatment needs.
- Conduct suicide risk evaluations and apply assessment protocols to ensure patient safety.
- Offer crisis intervention, group psychotherapy, and individual therapy sessions, including at cell fronts as necessary.
- Identify symptoms of psychiatric disorders to assess, diagnose, and manage treatment.
- Administer and interpret psychological tests, ensuring the application of appropriate methodologies.
- Prepare clinical reports that detail diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment plans in line with professional standards.
- Document all patient care, including progress notes and interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- The Clinical Psychologist monitors inmate progress using structured documentation formats.
- Implement community standards of psychological treatment modalities while maintaining ethical standards.
- Conduct mental status examinations during patient interactions.
- Review and analyze previous mental health records and relevant documents to inform treatment planning.
- Provide mental health education and resources for inmates with specific needs.
- Assist inmates in applying for entitlement benefits and community services.
- Communicate with family members or caregivers, following appropriate confidentiality protocols.
- Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and their families to support treatment goals.
- Ensure order and supervision of inmate behavior to prevent harm or escape.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new treatment programs.
- The Clinical Psychologist adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, and policies regarding patient confidentiality and record management.
Clinical Psychologist - REQUIREMENTS
- Doctoral Degree in Psychology from a graduate program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).
- A minimum of twelve months of continuous experience within the last three years in a similar role in a public or private institution excluding internship experience.
- Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in California.
- Maintain BLS certification from the American Heart Association or client.
