About the Facility - Central California Women's Facility (CCWF)
The facility is located in Chowchilla, is the largest female prison in the United States and serves as a critical institution in the California correctional system. Opened in 1995, it focuses not only on incarceration but also on rehabilitation, offering a variety of programs designed to support inmates' personal growth and reintegration into society. These programs include vocational training, educational opportunities, mental health services, and substance abuse treatment. Primary Care Physician - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)

  • The Primary Care Physician performs comprehensive medical history evaluations and physical examinations on patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric populations.
  • Diagnose medical conditions and order appropriate laboratory tests, imaging studies (e.g., X-rays), and other diagnostic procedures as needed.
  • Refer patients to external hospitals or physicians for services not available within the Indian Health Service (Client) Healthcare Delivery System.
  • Coordinate patient referrals through the Purchase Referred Care (PRC) office to ensure eligibility and proper scheduling for further diagnosis or procedures.
  • Collaborate with other agencies or health facilities on behalf of patients and their families to arrange admissions to hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and skilled nursing facilities.
  • Organize emergency ground and/or air medical transport as required.
  • Analyze clinical data, develop therapeutic programs, and communicate information effectively to patients and their families.
  • The Primary Care Physician provides support to patients and families in times of illness.
  • Maintain accurate and timely Electronic Health Records (EHR) with detailed clinical documentation, including diagnosis codes. Complete all EHR notes within 24 hours of patient encounters.
  • Prescribe medications and treatment therapies in coordination with nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare personnel.
  • Follow up on treatment plans and monitor patient progress.
  • Provide ongoing individual counseling for common social and emotional issues.
  • Recognize the need for referral to a mental health professional when necessary.
  • The Primary Care Physician consults independently with medical and surgical specialists to discuss patient care and arrange referrals as needed to appropriate health facilities.

Primary Care Physician - REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Medicine with an MD or DO degree.
  • Must have 1 year of experience within the last 5 years in obstetrics or gynecology care, with current validated competencies for (Central California Women’s Facility).
  • Must have a current DEA.
  • Should be Board Certified or Board Eligible in American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM).
  • Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in California
  • Must hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification recognized by the American Heart Association.
