About the Facility: Pinon Health Center
The Pinon Health Center is an outpatient clinic and is associated with the Chinle Service Unit - Indian Health Service in the Heart of the Navajo Reservation - Northern Arizona. Pinon Health Center provides medical care to approximately 11,000 patients - the majority of whom are Navajo, and many still speak the language. The Outpatient Clinic has a wide range of health services that include Community Health Nutrition, Counseling Services, Dental, Family Medicine, Health Promotion, Laboratory, Midwifery, Native Medicine, OB/GYN, Optometry, Patient Advocacy, Pediatrics, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Public Health Nursing, Radiology, Speech Therapy, Navajo Nation Emergency Medical Services and Navajo Nation Health Education.

Pharmacist - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)

  • The Pharmacist verifies prescription orders for completeness, legality, and appropriateness.
  • Check for potential drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications.
  • The Pharmacist ensures accurate preparation, labeling, and distribution of medications.
  • Verify patient understanding and provide supplemental written instructions when necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and institutional pharmacy regulations.
  • Provide clear instructions on medication use, potential side effects, and precautions.
  • Manage pharmaceutical supplies following established protocols.
  • The Pharmacist assists with order organization and performs patient pill counts at the pharmacy window when necessary.

Pharmacist - REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a degree from a pharmacy school approved by a state-accrediting agency.
  • Minimum of 6 months of prior Indian Health Service pharmacy experience.
  • Shall possess a current, active, unrestricted license from any of the United States, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia.
  • Immunization certificate endorsed by the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) at the time of employment is preferred.
