Pittsburgh VAMC
It is an acute care and inpatient behavioral health facility with 146 beds available for medical, neurological, and surgical care in the main facility and 78 secure, private psychiatric beds in the consolidation building. This campus also receives the most outpatient visits of all VAPHS facilities.
The University Drive campus of VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System is located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, adjacent to the University of Pittsburgh's Petersen Events Center. Cytotechnologist - Duties and Responsibilities
- Collect adequate and properly labeled specimens.
- Properly determine current clinician orders in the computer, according to laboratory procedures.
- Process specimens for testing and/or shipment to another laboratory for testing.
- Maintains adequate stock of supplies and rotates stock as needed to ensure supplies are used according to expiration dates.
- Assists in cleaning and maintaining all used equipment and workspace daily.
- The Cytotechnologist receives specimens and accompanying request forms for any of the tests that can be performed and checks each for proper identification.
- Communicate the daily status and problems about the laboratory output to team members and senior management of the service.
- The Cytotechnologist processes laboratory specimens per the VA, The Joint Commission, and the College of American Pathologists.
Cytotechnologist - Requirements:
- Any state license honored.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited program, with an associate degree or greater.
- Must hold an active ASCP certification.
- Must be currently certified in ACLS and BLS.
