The Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility (CCHCF) is based in Chinle, Arizona (Northeast Arizona near Canyon De Chelly National Monument). Strong Navajo cultural traditions exist within the community, offering an opportunity to learn the Navajo language or learn about traditional Navajo medicine. The service unit is located on the Colorado Plateau with excellent opportunities for photography, hiking, running, road biking, cross-country skiing, and mountain biking. Canyon de Chelly National Monument is within 5 miles of the hospital and is a wonderful place for exploring and sightseeing, running, and mountain biking.

About the Facility – Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility (CCHCF)
The CCHCF provides medical care for approximately 35,000 Navajo citizens. Serving a rural area, many of the patients travel 100 miles round-trip to receive care and do not have electricity or running water in their homes. In addition, most of the elderly patients speak only Navajo and live according to traditional Navajo cultural practices. The CCHCF and Ambulatory Care Center is a 60-bed inpatient hospital and outpatient facility. Dietitian RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
- Provide nutrition expertise in planning, implementing, and evaluating inpatient, outpatient, and community nutrition care and services geared towards educating individuals, families, staff, providers, leadership, and others on preventing and managing chronic diseases, i.e., diabetes, obesity, and others.
- Provides nutrition services in outpatient, inpatient, schools, workplace, home, telehealth, and other community settings.
- Reviews, selects, develops, and disseminates suitable education and counseling materials for patients in the outpatient, inpatient, schools, workplace, home, telehealth, and other community settings.
- Provides medical nutrition therapy to individuals and nutrition education to groups in outpatient, inpatient, schools, workplace, home, telehealth, and other community settings.
- Conducts comprehensive nutritional assessment for all patients, developing nutritional care plans with them and their families consistent with cultural, social, and physiological requirements.
- Plans for and participates in group teaching and training of clients, staff, and community members to expand services and increase public awareness of preventing and managing health conditions such as diabetes, overweight/obesity, and others.
- Work effectively and harmoniously within the health care teams, colleagues, coworkers, supervisor, leadership, and with Native American patients and their families.
- Follows facility policies and procedures, the Joint Commission, O.S.H.A., I.H.S., and other federal licensing, accreditation, and regulating body standards.
- Coordinates patient care in a team's approach when appropriate. Offer guidance and support to team members.
- Teach and offer appropriate health education to staff, patients, and customer owners.
- Provides consultation to professional and paraprofessional staff concerning diets and nutrition; records information in medical records regarding nutritional requirements, patient's progress, education, follow-up, etc., and performs other related duties as assigned.
Dietitian REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess and maintain current registration with the Commission on Dietetics Registration.
- Degree of diploma from a professional dietetic program approved by the legally designated state accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
- Current BLS is required. ACLS and PALS certification is highly desirable.
