Description

The mystical Badlands of South Dakota
The Community – Pine Ridge, SD
The Oglala Lakota tribe, part of the Greater Sioux Nation, still lives on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, the second-largest reservation in the United States. Pine Ridge serves as the tribal headquarters and is located near the Nebraska border in the southernmost part of the Badlands and Black Hills Region. With its remote location, Pine Ridge features expansive landscapes for wilderness camping and exploring. Visitors can also find comfortable lodging on the reservation during their stay. The rugged terrain around Pine Ridge features wide-open prairies, grasslands, and the mystical Badlands of South Dakota. These lands are sacred to the tribe and offer a serene way to reconnect with nature. After you're done hiking, biking, or observing wildlife, visit the Wounded Knee Massacre site, the Oglala Lakota College, and the Red Cloud Heritage Center, which houses a large collection of Native American art and handcrafted items in the region.
