Naval Air Station (NAS) Lemoore, situated in California’s San Joaquin Valley, is the U.S. Navy’s primary West Coast base for carrier-based strike fighter operations. Established in 1961, it serves as home to numerous F/A-18 Hornet and F-35C Lightning II squadrons, supporting the latest in naval aviation technology and combat readiness. The base features extensive training facilities, including advanced simulators and air-to-ground weapons ranges, ensuring pilots and crews receive comprehensive preparation for both carrier operations and combat missions. Clinical Psychologist - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)

  • The Clinical Psychologist practice in accordance with state licensing board guidelines, the American Psychological Association (APA) Ethical Principles, and MTF privileges.
  • Conduct psychological evaluations, including clinical interviews, psychological testing, and gathering information from collateral sources as needed.
  • Diagnose psychiatric conditions using the American Psychiatric Association’s DSM.
  • Provide psychological treatment to individuals and groups, assisting medical and surgical patients in coping with illnesses or injuries.
  • Support patient rehabilitation efforts.
  • Utilize the Behavioral Health Data Portal (BHDP) for patient management.
  • The Clinical Psychologist provides therapeutic treatment and evaluates patients' progress.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff and/or base personnel to promote mental health wellness programs (e.g., addictions, stress management, group therapies).
  • Perform clinical evaluations, including administering and interpreting psychological, neuropsychological, cognitive, and personality tests; offer consultations on test selection.
  • Work closely with clinical teams to enhance patient awareness of mental and behavioral health wellness programs.
  • Complete necessary documentation of procedures and care provided, following the Health Maintenance Strategies Manual (HMSI) standards.
  • Act as an advisor and consultant to staff on specialized clinical psychology areas, including comprehensive psychological evaluations, diagnosis, treatment, and military duty dispositions.
  • Provide education to clinical staff as needed to increase awareness and understanding of mental health conditions such as PTSD, TBI, and other related disorders.
  • Offer consultative behavioral health services within the Fleet Centered Medical Home Port (FCMP), using evidence-based practices and Clinical Practice Guidelines.
  • Provide timely, clear feedback to primary care physicians or PCMs about consultation findings and recommendations.
  • Apply a biopsychosocial approach to patient care and present treatment plans to the treatment team (e.g., physicians, social workers, Corpsmen, nursing staff).
  • Assess patients' psychological conditions and utilize psycho-diagnostic evaluations and psychotherapy.
  • Document care and recommendations in the patient’s electronic medical record within 24 hours after patient consultation.
  • Participate in group medical appointments, including Shared Medical Appointments (SMA) and Drop-In Group Medical Appointments (DlGMA), as requested by the Primary Care Manager (PCM).
  • May require travel for local and/or national meetings or conferences.
  • The Clinical Psychologist provides recommendations on appropriate military duty dispositions (e.g., full duty, limited duty).

Clinical Psychologist - REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: PhD or PsyD from an APA-accredited program and completion of an APA-accredited internship (waiver possible upon approval).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience within the last 3 years, or as required to meet clinical competency standards.
  • License: Active, unrestricted license in any state.
  • Board Certification: Not required.
  • Life Support Certification: BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Security: Must possess the ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
