About the Facility: Wilkes-Barre Veterans Affairs Medical Center
At the VA Wilkes-Barre Healthcare system, our expert health care teams focus on our Veterans' needs, their families, and caregivers. The Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center has a total of 172 operating beds. This includes 67 hospital beds, 80 Community Living Center (nursing home) beds, and 25 beds for substance abuse residential rehabilitation, inpatient care, inpatient mental health, ICU, and PCU. Services provided offer a wide range of health services for Veterans, including primary care, specialty services, mental health care, and rehabilitation services. They also provide services for returning service members, including polytrauma care and family benefits counseling.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (included but not limited to):
- The Cardiologist shall cover the range of cardiology services as would be provided in a state-of-the-art civilian medical treatment facility.
- Work with the following staff: Cardiology Nurse Practitioners, Cardiology Physician Assistants, ED physicians, Hospitalists, inpatient residents, medical officer of the day (MODs), medical specialist, and surgical specialist for cardiology inpatient consults.
- Ensure proper communication with the Primary Care and specialty physicians, including cardiology inpatient/outpatient consults.
- Document progress notes, procedure notes, orders, encounters, and orders are within the electronic medical record per SLCHCS rules and regulations within 48 hours of the date of the encounter.
- Ensure smooth and timely patient flow for cardiology patients both inpatient/outpatient.
- Comply with all of The Joint Commission National Center for Patient Safety goals and accreditation standards.
- Evaluate and manage both new and established cardiology clinic patients.
Requirements:
- Current license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia)
- Board Certified /Board Eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiology (ABIM)
- BLS, ACLS Certified
- DEA Licensed
M-F 8:00 am-4:30 pm (40 hours/week) (NO weekend/weeknight or on-call coverage)
